Boston, MA – Massachusetts residents will see a warm start to the work week before scattered rain and thunderstorms return by Tuesday evening, according to the National Weather Service in Boston.

Forecasters said Monday brings partly cloudy skies with highs in the 70s across the region. The warmest day is expected Tuesday, when temperatures climb into the upper 70s and low 80s before showers and thunderstorms arrive in the afternoon and evening.

According to the National Weather Service, showers may linger into Wednesday morning, keeping highs in the low to mid-70s. Conditions turn cooler by Thursday, with cloudy skies and highs in the mid-60s to low 70s, along with a chance for additional showers. Another round of rain is possible on Friday, when highs are forecast in the mid to upper 70s.

The agency noted that this week’s precipitation could help ease ongoing dry conditions in parts of Massachusetts. Commuters should plan for possible delays during periods of heavy rain, particularly Tuesday evening and Wednesday morning.

This week’s pattern marks a shift from the drier weather that has dominated much of September, bringing residents some much-needed rainfall to close out the month.
