Boston, MA — The National Weather Service in Boston has released its preliminary snowfall forecast for Saturday night into Sunday morning, showing the potential for 1–2 inches of snow south of I-90, with a corridor of 3–4 inches possible closer to the south coast.
Forecasters emphasize that these numbers are early estimates and may change as additional model data arrives later today and Saturday. North of the Massachusetts Turnpike, snowfall amounts are expected to remain lighter, with a dusting to 1 inch indicated for areas including Worcester, Fitchburg, Lawrence, and the Merrimack Valley.
Some of the higher totals—ranging from 3 to 4 inches—are currently projected for locations such as Providence, Plymouth, New Bedford, Hyannis, Newport, and coastal Rhode Island, where moisture from the offshore system will be more available. Southeastern Connecticut, including New London and Stamford, may also see 2–3 inches of accumulating snow.
The bulk of the snowfall is expected to occur late Saturday night into early Sunday, potentially affecting early-morning drivers and leading to slick roads, especially in areas that fall within the higher-accumulation zone. Road crews and commuters may need to plan for reduced visibility and slippery travel conditions before precipitation tapers through Sunday morning.
Because this forecast represents the first call, the National Weather Service notes that adjustments are likely as meteorologists evaluate new guidance on storm track, temperature profiles, and timing. Even slight shifts could influence where the higher snowfall swath sets up.
Residents across southern New England are encouraged to stay updated with the latest information as the weekend approaches.
