Boston, MA – Severe thunderstorms and dangerous heat are converging across Massachusetts Thursday, bringing threats of damaging winds, street flooding, and heat-related illnesses from Springfield to Boston.
According to the National Weather Service in Boston, a Heat Advisory remains in effect for most of southern New England—including Worcester, Hartford, and Providence—until 7 p.m. Thursday. Afternoon and evening hours will also see a heightened risk for isolated severe storms, especially in western Massachusetts and western Connecticut. These storms may bring wind damage and localized urban flooding, with the greatest impacts expected along I-91 and the Connecticut River Valley.
Cities such as Springfield, Greenfield, and Hartford should prepare for sudden downpours and possible power outages late Thursday. Residents in Worcester, Fitchburg, and Boston will continue facing sweltering heat and humidity, raising concerns for heat exhaustion, particularly among vulnerable groups and those without air conditioning. The Berkshires and Cape Cod/Islands are expected to see less intense heat, but should still remain alert for changing weather.
Officials urge everyone to stay hydrated, limit outdoor activities during peak heat, and keep cell phones charged. If severe storms hit, avoid flooded roads and seek shelter indoors.
Thunderstorm and heat advisories may be extended as new data arrives. Stay tuned for further updates through Thursday night.
