Boston, MA – A windy and noticeably cooler day is setting up across eastern Massachusetts as west winds strengthen and afternoon temperatures fall sharply. The National Weather Service says gusts will increase to 30–40 mph today, creating blustery conditions through tonight and into Monday.
According to the National Weather Service Boston/Norton, drying conditions early this morning will give way to increasing winds by midday. By the afternoon, most communities—including Boston, Gloucester, Lowell, Springfield, and Worcester—will see peak gusts ranging from 33 to 40 mph, with coastal and Cape locations occasionally experiencing the highest values.
Temperatures will gradually fall through the afternoon behind a passing disturbance, leaving much of the region cooler than normal by tonight. Spotty, brief showers are possible during the afternoon, especially across interior Massachusetts, though widespread precipitation is not expected.
The windy trend continues into Monday, with gusts still reaching 25–35 mph across much of the state. Temperatures will remain on the chilly side through the day, with highs running below seasonal averages. Conditions stay mainly dry aside from a few patchy interior clouds.
Forecasters emphasize that the combination of falling temperatures and gusty winds may create rough travel for high-profile vehicles, especially along exposed roadways such as I-90, I-93, Route 2, and the Mass Pike. Outdoor items should be secured to prevent them from being blown around during peak gusts.
By Monday night, winds begin to ease as high pressure builds in, setting up calmer but colder conditions across the region. Lows are expected to drop well into the 20s and low 30s statewide.
The NWS will continue to monitor wind speeds and temperature trends as the system moves offshore.
