BOSTON, Mass. – A blustery stretch of fall weather has settled across southern New England, bringing gusty northwest winds through Friday and noticeably cooler air to end the week.
According to the National Weather Service in Boston/Norton, northwest winds will increase today and peak Thursday, with gusts of 25 to 35 mph common across coastal Massachusetts, Rhode Island, and Connecticut. The strongest winds—up to 36 mph—are expected along Cape Cod and the Islands, particularly near Provincetown and Nantucket.
Temperatures will top out today in the upper 50s to low 60s before dropping into the low and mid-50s Thursday as cooler air continues to move in behind a passing cold front. Friday will remain breezy but slightly lighter, with winds gradually easing into the weekend.
Motorists and cyclists should use caution on elevated bridges and open highways, including I-195, Route 6, and the Cape Cod Canal bridges, where crosswinds could make travel tricky. Small craft advisories may be needed for nearshore waters due to choppy seas and lingering gusts.
High pressure builds in Friday night, bringing calmer, drier, and seasonably cool conditions for the weekend.
