Boston, Mass. – Oppressive heat and humidity will grip Massachusetts Sunday as high temperatures climb into the upper 80s and low 90s before scattered thunderstorms develop by mid-afternoon. The National Weather Service in Boston warns the strongest storms could pack damaging wind gusts, especially between 3 p.m. and 10 p.m.

According to the agency, much of central and eastern Massachusetts faces the highest risk, with Worcester and Springfield seeing the greatest storm coverage. Localized downpours and strong wind bursts could quickly create hazardous travel, particularly on I-90 and I-495.

The heat will also compound storm impacts. Boston and Lawrence are forecast to reach 93 degrees, while Worcester could hit 91. Drivers are urged to use caution on wet roads and residents should secure outdoor items ahead of the storms. Power outages remain possible where winds peak.

Showers should taper off by late evening, though humidity will linger into the overnight hours. More updates may follow if additional warnings are issued.
