Massachusetts – Snowflakes mix with freezing rain across Boston this morning, coating railings and sidewalks while slushy water collects along curb lines. Drivers moving through downtown and along the Southeast Expressway are already encountering slick patches.
According to the National Weather Service in Norton, a Winter Weather Advisory remains in effect through midday as snow mixes with freezing rain and sleet across eastern Massachusetts. Temperatures hover near 30°F, allowing light ice to form on untreated surfaces.
Commuters along I-93, I-90, and Route 1 should expect slick spots through the late morning. Elevated roadways and bridges can freeze first when temperatures hover near the freezing mark.
Rain gradually replaces snow through midday as temperatures rise toward 35°F. The shift to rain helps melt ice, but roads may remain slushy and wet during the afternoon drive.
Patchy fog could also develop in the afternoon as warmer air moves over the colder ground. Visibility may briefly drop along sections of I-95 and Route 128 during heavier showers.
Conditions improve later tonight with only light drizzle or fog possible. Temperatures settle near 33°F, keeping surfaces damp but above the freezing threshold.
The weekend begins with lingering clouds and occasional drizzle Saturday before gradual improvement. High temperatures climb toward 48°F, beginning a slow warming trend.
Sunday brings partial sunshine and milder air with highs near 55°F across the Boston metro area.
Early Sunday morning also marks the seasonal time change. Clocks spring forward one hour at 2 a.m., giving New England longer daylight evenings.
The start of next week looks brighter. Sunshine returns Monday with temperatures approaching 59°F, a noticeable shift toward early spring weather.
