Boston, MA – The wind feels sharper off the harbor this morning, carrying the salt and chill of December’s first real coastal event. The National Weather Service has issued a Coastal Flood Statement for Boston and neighboring shoreline communities through late morning as high tide combines with onshore winds to cause minor flooding in low-lying areas and along Morrissey Boulevard, Seaport, and Revere Beach Parkway.
Flooding could linger through mid-morning before receding by midday, but residents should avoid flooded roadways and coastal routes. Even shallow saltwater flooding can damage vehicles and create slick, icy patches later as temperatures dip.
Beyond the tide threat, meteorologists are eyeing a Friday system that could brush eastern Massachusetts with light snow or a rain-snow mix, a brief tease of winter returning to the region. Models suggest minor accumulation — generally less than one inch — mainly north and west of the city. Temperatures will stay cold, with highs near 28°F and northwest gusts topping 20 mph.
The weekend turns calmer and seasonably chilly, with partly sunny skies and highs near 37°F. For those planning early holiday shopping or tree-cutting trips, Saturday looks the driest, though brisk winds will keep it feeling well below freezing.
