Boston, Massachusetts – Accumulating snow is expected to begin in Boston between 7 and 9 p.m., marking the start of a high-impact winter storm.

According to the National Weather Service in Boston/Norton, snow will expand across eastern Massachusetts during the evening hours, with steady accumulation beginning in the city during that two-hour window. Timing confidence is listed as high.

Forecasters say snowfall rates will intensify overnight, with the heaviest snow expected between 4 a.m. and noon Monday. Rates of 2 to 4 inches per hour are possible during peak intensity, creating near-zero visibility at times.

Storm totals in eastern Massachusetts are forecast in the 18 to 24 inch range, with localized amounts up to 30 inches possible. Strong north to northeast wind gusts of 55 to 75 mph are expected across parts of southeast Massachusetts and Rhode Island, increasing the risk of tree damage and power outages.

Travel conditions are expected to deteriorate quickly after snow begins Sunday evening, becoming difficult to nearly impossible overnight into Monday morning. The evening onset may affect late commuters and overnight workers before conditions worsen during the Monday morning commute.

The National Weather Service urges residents to complete preparations before snow begins and to monitor updated forecasts and potential warnings.
