Boston, Mass. – Commuters across eastern Massachusetts should prepare for multiple rounds of rain and possible wet snow along I-90 and I-93 beginning Wednesday night, as an active weather pattern sets up through the end of the week.

According to the National Weather Service in Boston, a low-predictability pattern will bring periodic chances for rain or snow from Wednesday through the upcoming weekend. Afternoon highs across Boston, Providence and Hartford will run near to slightly above normal, generally in the upper 30s to low 40s, while overnight lows hover near freezing.

The first meaningful precipitation chance arrives Wednesday, with probabilities increasing to 40% to 55% across the region. While much of the coastal plain, including areas along I-95 and Route 128, is expected to see mainly rain, higher terrain west of I-495 — including Worcester Hills and areas along Route 2 — has the best chance to see wet snow, especially during the overnight hours.

Additional scattered showers are possible Thursday into Friday, with precipitation coverage fluctuating between 30% and 50%. Drivers should remain alert for changing road conditions, particularly during early morning hours when temperatures dip to near 30 degrees and untreated bridges along I-90 and I-495 could become slick.

No major winter storm is locked in at this time, but forecast details may shift as each system approaches. Residents are encouraged to monitor updates throughout the week as timing and precipitation type become clearer.
