Boston, MA – Breezy conditions will persist across eastern Massachusetts today and Christmas Day, with a sharp turn toward colder air expected Christmas night.

According to the National Weather Service in Boston, north-northwest winds gusting between 30 and 40 miles per hour are impacting the region this morning. Winds are expected to gradually ease this afternoon and tonight before increasing again late Christmas Day with similar gust speeds.

Temperatures will remain seasonable for late December through Christmas Day, with daytime highs generally ranging from the mid-30s to around 40 degrees. Overnight lows tonight are expected to dip into the teens and 20s, with colder air arriving behind a cold front late Thursday night.

Forecasters say the most noticeable change will occur Christmas night, when colder air combines with strong winds to drive wind chill values down into the single digits. While widespread precipitation is not expected, the National Weather Service noted that ocean-effect snow showers are possible near the east coast today before conditions turn dry for Christmas Day.

The gusty winds may make travel difficult for high-profile vehicles and could blow around unsecured outdoor items, including holiday decorations. Residents are encouraged to dress in layers and take precautions against the cold during evening and overnight hours.

This forecast is especially relevant for holiday travelers, commuters, and those attending outdoor Christmas events across the Boston area and eastern Massachusetts.

Residents are urged to monitor forecast updates as wind and temperature trends evolve into Thursday night.
