Boston, Massachusetts – Plowable snowfall is expected across Boston tonight, creating hazardous road conditions for the Monday morning commute.

According to the National Weather Service in Boston, steady light snow will overspread the region this evening, with the heaviest snowfall occurring between 6 p.m. and 2 a.m. Snowfall rates could reach up to a half inch per hour during this period.

Forecasters expect widespread snowfall totals of 3 to 5 inches across eastern Massachusetts, including Boston, with localized amounts up to 6 inches possible. Snow will gradually taper off from west to east overnight, ending between 3 a.m. and 9 a.m. Monday, though light snow showers may linger into midday in eastern areas.

The National Weather Service warns that untreated roadways may become slick quickly, especially during the evening and early morning travel periods. Motorists traveling along Interstate 90 (Mass Pike), Interstate 93, Interstate 95, and Route 1 should be prepared for reduced visibility and slippery conditions, particularly on bridges, ramps, and secondary roads.

Snowfall intensity is expected to decrease after midnight, but cold pavement temperatures may allow snow to remain on road surfaces into the morning commute.

Drivers are urged to slow down, increase following distance, and allow extra travel time Monday morning.

The National Weather Service emphasized that while this is not a major storm, timing and snowfall rates will significantly impact travel across the region.
