Boston, MA – A mix of rain and light snow is expected to move across Massachusetts this afternoon and tonight, with the heaviest snow confined to the higher terrain of the Berkshires and northern Worcester Hills, according to the National Weather Service (NWS) Boston.

Forecasters say rain will spread into interior southern New England by mid-afternoon Wednesday, reaching the Boston–Providence corridor later in the evening. Temperatures across eastern Massachusetts will remain above freezing, keeping most areas under steady rainfall, while elevations west of I-90 may see a coating to 2 inches of snow.

Radar simulations show precipitation intensifying between 2 p.m. and 9 p.m., with the rain-snow line fluctuating across central Massachusetts. The NWS noted that snow will be confined to the highest terrain, especially along the east slopes of the Berkshires, where roads could briefly become slick overnight.

Travelers along Interstate 90 and Route 2 should watch for reduced visibility and wet roadways through tonight. The snow is expected to taper off before daybreak Thursday, followed by colder, breezy conditions heading into the weekend.

Officials advise drivers in western and central Massachusetts to allow extra travel time and stay alert to changing conditions, particularly in hilly and untreated areas.
