Boston, MA – A stretch of dangerous heat is set to grip much of Massachusetts and southern New England through Thursday, with inland “feels like” temperatures soaring into the low to mid-90s. The National Weather Service warns that the most intense heat will peak Wednesday, especially away from the south coast, before cooler air arrives late Thursday night into Friday.
According to the National Weather Service Boston, Boston could hit a heat index of 95°F on Wednesday, while Springfield, Lowell, and Hartford may see values of 96–97°F. Moderate humidity will combine with high temperatures to create potentially dangerous conditions for anyone spending extended time outdoors. Coastal locations, including Nantucket and New Bedford, will run slightly cooler but still warm, with highs in the upper 70s to mid-80s.
Officials urge residents to limit strenuous outdoor activity during the afternoon, stay hydrated, and check on elderly neighbors or those without air conditioning. Pets should have access to shade and fresh water, and cars should never be left unattended with children or animals inside.
Relief is expected by Friday as temperatures ease into the low to mid-80s. Additional heat advisories could be issued if conditions intensify midweek.
