Boston, MA – The National Weather Service in Boston/Norton has extended Gale Warnings across nearly all Massachusetts coastal waters Monday, warning that strong northeast winds and high seas will continue to create dangerous conditions for mariners through late tonight and early Tuesday.

According to the weather service, northeast winds of 25 to 35 knots, with gusts up to 45 knots, are producing waves from 7 to 16 feet in open waters east of Cape Cod and Nantucket. Conditions remain severe throughout Massachusetts Bay, Ipswich Bay, Cape Cod Bay, Vineyard Sound, Buzzards Bay, and Boston Harbor, where gusts of 35 to 40 knots are being reported.

The warnings remain in effect until 2 a.m. Tuesday for most offshore zones, while Boston Harbor and Vineyard Sound may see improvement by Monday evening. Forecasters caution that these winds and waves could capsize or damage vessels and significantly reduce visibility.

Mariners are strongly advised to remain in port, seek safe harbor, and secure vessels until conditions subside.
