Boston, MA – A cold front sweeping through southern New England is bringing sharply lower temperatures and mostly clear skies across Massachusetts, including the Boston metro area, through Sunday evening.

According to the U.S. National Weather Service Boston, temperatures will fall below freezing overnight Saturday into early Sunday, with lows ranging between 26°F and 31°F across key cities such as Boston, Springfield, and Worcester. Coldest conditions are expected between 4 a.m. and 8 a.m. Sunday, with Providence, RI also dipping into the upper 20s.

Sky cover will rapidly decrease behind the front, dropping below 10% in most areas by 7 a.m. Sunday. Cities including Cambridge, Lowell, and Plymouth are forecast to maintain minimal cloud cover throughout the day, providing a crisp but sunny backdrop to the chilly temperatures.

Motorists should be alert for early morning frost on roads and bridges, particularly in low-lying areas. Residents are advised to protect plants and pets from the cold and ensure home heating systems are functioning efficiently.

This cold snap marks a return to typical late-March conditions following a recent mild stretch. While temperatures will rebound slightly by late afternoon Sunday, most regions will remain in the low to mid-40s, keeping the air brisk despite the sunshine.
