Boston, Massachusetts – Periods of plowable snow are expected across Massachusetts and Rhode Island today and tonight, with the worst travel conditions developing this evening, according to the National Weather Service in Boston.
In an early morning update, the National Weather Service said snow began developing this morning and will continue at times through the afternoon. While brief lulls are possible, steadier and heavier snow is expected late this afternoon and tonight, especially across eastern Massachusetts and Rhode Island.
Forecast graphics indicate total snowfall of 2 to 6 inches across much of the region, with localized amounts up to 7 inches possible in eastern Massachusetts and Rhode Island. Western Massachusetts and northern Connecticut are expected to see lower totals, generally 2 to 5 inches.
Snowfall rates may reach around 1 inch per hour at times this evening, particularly between 5 PM and 1 AM, contributing to rapidly deteriorating road conditions. The National Weather Service noted that the heaviest snow and worst travel impacts are most likely tonight.
A Winter Weather Advisory remains in effect today and tonight. While snow is expected to taper off by daybreak Monday, forecasters cautioned that lingering snow showers could still impact parts of eastern Massachusetts during the Monday morning commute.
Drivers are urged to plan ahead for snow-covered roads, reduced visibility, and slower travel tonight. Residents are encouraged to monitor official updates as conditions evolve.
