Bossier City, LA – Families across northwest Louisiana have a chance this week to make sure their children are riding safely. Louisiana State Police Troop G is hosting a free child safety seat check event Thursday morning, offering hands-on assistance from certified technicians.

According to Louisiana State Police, the event will take place Thursday, January 8, from 10 a.m. to 12 p.m. at Louisiana State Police Troop G, 5300 Industrial Drive Extension in Bossier City. The service is open to the public and completely free.

Troopers and nationally certified child passenger safety technicians will inspect child safety seats and help caregivers ensure seats are properly selected, correctly installed, and adjusted to fit the child. Officials say improper installation is a common issue and can significantly increase the risk of injury during a crash.

State police also emphasized the importance of setting a good example for young passengers. Consistent seat belt use by adults, they say, increases the likelihood that children will buckle up as well. Motor vehicle crashes remain the leading cause of death for children, making correct restraint use a critical safety step.

Parents and caregivers are encouraged to bring their vehicle, child safety seat, and child if possible, so technicians can provide individualized guidance. Walk-ins are welcome during the event hours.

Those unable to attend Thursday can locate other Child Safety Fitting Stations statewide by contacting their local Louisiana State Police troop or visiting lahighwaysafety.org.
