Boone County, Indiana Crash on I-865 Leaves Two Seriously Injured

Boone County, Indiana – Two people were seriously injured Wednesday afternoon after a single-vehicle crash with entrapment on Interstate 865 eastbound, prompting a county-level investigation.

According to the Boone County Sheriff’s Office, deputies were dispatched at approximately 4:21 p.m. Wednesday to the area of the 4-mile marker on I-865 eastbound for a report of a crash involving entrapment.

First responders located a vehicle that had left the roadway and come to rest on an embankment beneath a bridge. Authorities identified the driver as Anthony Memmer, 58, of Lebanon, Indiana. The passenger was identified as Darren Puzzello, 35, also of Lebanon.

Both occupants sustained serious bodily injuries and were transported to a local hospital for treatment. Their current conditions were not released.

The Boone County Fatal Alcohol Crash Team (FACT) was requested to the scene and has assumed responsibility for the investigation. Officials did not release details regarding the cause of the crash or whether impairment is suspected.

Assisting agencies at the scene included the Zionsville Police Department, Whitestown Metropolitan Police Department, and Zionsville Fire Department.

Interstate 865 is a heavily traveled connector route for commuters in Boone County, and the crash occurred during the afternoon travel period.
