Boise, ID – A fresh blast of winter weather is expected to create slick and dangerous travel conditions across Idaho’s mountainous regions Friday night into Saturday.
According to the National Weather Service in Boise, a Winter Weather Advisory is in effect from 6 p.m. Friday through noon Saturday for the Boise Mountains and West Central Mountains. Snow accumulation could range from 2 to 5 inches above 5,000 feet, while higher elevations may receive between 5 to 10 inches. Below 5,000 feet, precipitation will fall as rain or mixed snow with little accumulation expected.
Winds are forecast to gust up to 30 mph, particularly along ridgetops, potentially reducing visibility and making driving hazardous. Impacted areas include McCall, Cascade, Ola, Pine, and Bear.
Officials warn that roads, bridges, and overpasses may become slippery, especially overnight. Drivers are advised to slow down and use caution when traveling through the advisory zone.
Travelers can call 511 for updated road conditions or check the Idaho Transportation Department website for real-time alerts. Residents in higher elevations should prepare for limited mobility and consider delaying travel until conditions improve Saturday afternoon.
