Boise, Idaho – A widespread Flash Flood Watch remains in effect across much of southwest Idaho and eastern Oregon as heavy showers and thunderstorms continue to move through the region. Emergency officials warn that flooding and debris flows are possible in mountain canyons, steep terrain, and areas near recent wildfire burn scars through Wednesday evening.

According to the National Weather Service in Boise, repeated rounds of storms fueled by deep monsoonal moisture and a slow-moving upper trough are producing unusually high rainfall totals. Communities including Boise, Nampa, Caldwell, McCall, Twin Falls, Burns, Ontario, and Baker City remain under heightened risk until conditions improve.

Travel across U.S. 20, U.S. 95, and mountain passes could be impacted by sudden water over roadways or rockslides. Residents in flood-prone areas are urged to avoid driving through high water, keep cell phones charged, and prepare for possible emergency alerts overnight and into Wednesday.

Forecasters caution that the most intense rainfall could develop in the afternoon and evening hours, when storms are strongest. Additional warnings may be issued if flash flooding begins.
