Boise, Idaho – Travelers across Idaho’s mountain regions could face dangerous driving conditions into Friday morning as rain transitions into snow just in time for Black Friday. Areas above 5,000 feet—including Banner Summit, McCall, Tamarack Ski, and Brundage Mountain—are expected to see snowfall rates rise late Thursday night through Friday morning, with icy roads and limited visibility likely.

According to the National Weather Service in Boise, a warm front will push precipitation into southern Idaho Thursday, followed quickly by a cold front flipping rain to snow at mid to high elevations. Snow chances exceed 60% Friday morning in mountain zones, including Bogus Basin and Sun Valley, with McCall and Banner Summit already reporting up to 85% precipitation probabilities late Thursday night.

Treacherous road conditions are possible on U.S. 95, ID-21, and other key mountain corridors, especially before sunrise Friday. Shoppers and travelers are urged to delay early travel plans if possible or prepare for slushy roads and reduced traction in higher elevations. Lower valleys like Boise, Nampa, and Caldwell will mostly see rain with limited impacts.

Snowfall will taper off Friday night, but colder air settles in for the weekend with more chances of snow by early next week. Mountain travel warnings may be reissued as colder temperatures persist.
