BOISE, Idaho – A crisp, quiet sunrise is setting the stage for another picture-perfect fall day across southwest Idaho. But residents soaking up the midweek sunshine should make the most of it — a change is coming fast, with clouds, rain, and cooler air expected to roll in by late Friday.

According to the National Weather Service in Boise, high pressure will keep skies mostly clear through Thursday, with highs near 70 and light winds. The calm pattern will break down Friday as a Pacific system pushes inland, bringing scattered showers to the Treasure Valley by evening. While the rain should stay light to moderate, gusts up to 20 mph are possible, especially along the I-84 corridor west of the city.

Saturday looks noticeably cooler, with highs around 63 degrees and a 70 to 80 percent chance of rain through much of the day. By Sunday, the showers taper to scattered drizzle, but the chill lingers — afternoon highs may struggle to reach the low 50s, marking one of Boise’s first real tastes of late fall.

Those with outdoor plans should aim for Thursday’s warmth or prepare for wet conditions over the weekend. Gardeners may also want to secure tender plants, as next week’s early mornings could dip near freezing in valley locations.

To be fair, it’s not the season’s first big storm — but it’s the first strong hint that winter’s grip is inching closer. Expect damp roads, cooler commutes, and a steady transition into early November’s wetter rhythm.
