Boise, Idaho – Fog is expected to redevelop across the Treasure Valley tonight and persist into Wednesday morning, potentially reducing visibility to dangerous levels for commuters.

According to the National Weather Service in Boise, satellite imagery shows fog gradually dissipating during the morning hours as temperatures slowly warm. However, forecasters say the fog risk will return tonight, with conditions favoring redevelopment through Wednesday morning and likely continuing into the upcoming weekend.

The Weather Service warned that visibility could drop below one-quarter mile (0.25 miles) at times, particularly during the overnight and early morning hours. These conditions can make driving hazardous, especially during peak commute times.

Residents traveling early Wednesday are urged to use low-beam headlights, reduce speed, and allow extra stopping distance. Dense fog can form unevenly, meaning visibility may change rapidly over short distances.

The fog pattern has been persistent due to stable atmospheric conditions in the valley, allowing moisture to remain trapped near the surface overnight. While fog may slowly “burn off” during late morning hours, forecasters note that improvement can be gradual and inconsistent.

Areas affected include Boise, Meridian, Nampa, Caldwell, Eagle, and surrounding Treasure Valley communities. Rural roads and low-lying areas may experience the densest fog.

No formal advisories were issued with this update, but officials stress that fog-related travel hazards can be just as dangerous as winter precipitation, particularly when visibility drops suddenly.

Drivers are encouraged to monitor local forecasts, plan for slower travel during morning commutes, and remain alert for rapidly changing visibility through midweek.
