Boise, ID – After several mild fall days, Idaho’s weather will turn more active late this week as a cold front brings rain, wind, and mountain snow across the region, according to the National Weather Service in Boise.

Forecasters report that temperatures will remain above normal through Wednesday under a ridge of high pressure. However, an incoming Pacific system on Thursday will usher in cooler air and widespread precipitation through the weekend.

According to the NWS, several inches of snow are expected above 6,000 feet, with lighter accumulations possible down to elevations near 4,500–5,000 feet by Friday. Mountain passes could become slick, especially at Banner Summit, Brundage Mountain, and Bogus Basin.

Rain is expected for lower valleys, including Boise, Caldwell, and Twin Falls, with breezy conditions Thursday and Friday. Afternoon highs will drop from the 60s midweek to the 40s and 50s by the weekend, while overnight lows fall into the 20s and 30s.

Drivers heading into higher elevations are advised to check conditions and prepare for potential snow and reduced visibility later this week.
