Blacksburg, VA – The National Weather Service in Blacksburg is warning of gusty winds Monday night into Tuesday morning, mainly across areas west of the Blue Ridge Mountains, where wind gusts could exceed 30 mph.

Forecasters say there is a 30 to 80 percent chance of gusts topping 30 mph from Bluefield and Marion up through Roanoke and Lexington, with the highest probabilities along the mountain ridges and elevated terrain. Winds will increase late Monday as a cold front pushes through the Appalachians, bringing brief, blustery conditions overnight.

Motorists traveling along Interstates 77, 81, and 64 should use caution, particularly in higher elevations and open areas where sudden gusts could affect vehicle handling. Isolated power line or tree limb issues are possible in the windiest locations.

Conditions are expected to gradually improve Tuesday morning as winds ease from west to east. Temperatures will remain seasonably cool through midweek under clearing skies.
