Pendleton, OR — The Columbia Basin faces a weekend of challenging weather as thunderstorms and strong winds are expected to hit the region Friday. The National Weather Service (NWS) warns of gusts over 40 mph, increasing the risk of blowing dust, particularly in areas with dry and recently disturbed soils.

The most intense weather is anticipated from Friday afternoon into the evening. These conditions could lead to hazardous driving on major routes, including Interstates 90, 395, 12, 2, and 195.

On Saturday, the weather will begin to stabilize. Pendleton’s forecast shows a high of 72°F under partly cloudy skies, with much calmer winds. Residents can expect clearer conditions to continue through Sunday with a slight warm-up to 77°F.

As next week begins, temperatures will rise, reaching 87°F by Monday. The early part of the week will feature clear skies and mild weather, making it ideal for outdoor activities. Cooler temperatures will return by Wednesday, with highs around 76°F.
