Blount County, TN – A Maryville man is facing multiple felony and misdemeanor charges after allegedly fleeing deputies in a late-night pursuit that ended with a crash into several yards, according to Blount County Sheriff James Lee Berrong.

The suspect, Jamie Scott Banks, 33, of Aracian Lane in Maryville, is charged with DUI, evading and resisting arrest, reckless endangerment with a weapon (two counts), failure to yield to an emergency vehicle (five counts), and aggravated assault against a first responder (two counts).

According to the Maryville Police Department, the chase began shortly before midnight Saturday when Banks allegedly drove a Chevy Colorado pickup truck onto a basketball court at Atchley Apartments and nearly struck a pedestrian. Officers said the driver sped away recklessly before city police ended their pursuit at the city limits, and the Blount County Sheriff’s Office took over.

Deputies said Banks ran multiple red lights, swerved into oncoming traffic, and continued onto Morganton Road. Attempts to stop the vehicle with spike strips failed. Banks allegedly drove through several yards before striking a tree and ramming two Sheriff’s cruisers. Deputies said the chase ended only after Banks saw a Sheriff’s K-9 and surrendered. He later admitted to deputies that he had relapsed on drugs.

Banks remains in custody at the Blount County Correctional Facility on $33,000 bond and is scheduled to appear in General Sessions Court at 9 a.m. on November 7, 2025.
