Blount County, TN – The Blount County Sheriff’s Office is mourning the loss of retired Sgt. Rodney Postel, who passed away in his sleep on Wednesday, October 15, 2025, at U.T. Medical Center after a courageous year-and-a-half battle with cancer.

According to Sheriff James Lee Berrong, Sgt. Postel began his service with the department in July 1999 after moving from Florida, where he previously served with the Seminole County Sheriff’s Office. Over 25 years of law enforcement service, he rose through the ranks, becoming a sergeant in 2011 and later supervising the Traffic Safety Unit until his retirement in July 2024.

Affectionately known as “Boss” by his fellow deputies, Sgt. Postel was recognized for his leadership, mentorship, and dedication to officer training—particularly in emergency vehicle operations. He also served as an experienced motorman, providing escort duties for dignitaries including former presidents and vice presidents.

Sheriff Berrong described him as a leader with “a servant’s heart,” adding that Postel was respected by his peers and deeply engaged with the community. “He had the heart of a lion and fought the cancer valiantly,” Berrong said. “My heart aches for his wife Paige, their young daughter, and his sons. He will be deeply missed.”

Sgt. Postel is survived by his wife Paige, daughter Emma, sons Seth and Gage, his mother, two brothers, and many extended family members and friends.
