INDIANAPOLIS, IN – Central Indiana is bracing for a band of moderate to heavy snow this evening, with 3 to 5 inches of accumulation possible in some areas, according to the National Weather Service in Indianapolis.

Snow will begin to overspread the region after 5 PM, moving west to east and peaking late this evening through early Friday morning. The heaviest snowfall is expected in a narrow corridor stretching from Terre Haute through Bloomington and Columbus, where totals may reach up to 5 inches. Areas outside that band should still see 1 to 3 inches.

A Winter Weather Advisory remains in effect for most of central Indiana from 5 PM Thursday to 10 AM Friday. Forecasters warn that snow-covered and slick roads could lead to difficult travel during the evening commute and early Friday morning.

According to the NWS, snow should taper to light showers by sunrise Friday, with cold temperatures keeping road surfaces icy into the morning hours. Drivers are advised to slow down, allow extra time, and use caution on untreated roads and bridges.
