Indianapolis, IN – Residents across central and south-central Indiana should brace for powerful overnight winds as the National Weather Service in Indianapolis issued a Wind Advisory in effect until 8 a.m. EDT Sunday. The advisory covers major counties including Marion, Hamilton, Madison, Delaware, Monroe, Bartholomew, and Jackson, with gusts up to 50 mph expected.
According to the NWS, sustained southwest winds of 15 to 25 mph could lead to downed tree limbs, blown debris, and isolated power outages through the early morning hours. Cities under the advisory include Indianapolis, Bloomington, Columbus, Muncie, and Seymour.
Meteorologists warn that these winds may create hazardous driving conditions, especially for high-profile vehicles on open highways such as I-65, I-69, and I-70. Residents are urged to secure outdoor furniture, holiday decorations, and trash bins before conditions worsen overnight.
Winds are expected to gradually diminish after sunrise Sunday, but forecasters note that cooler temperatures and calmer conditions will follow as the system moves east.
