INDIANAPOLIS, Ind. — River flooding continues across parts of southern Indiana following recent heavy rainfall, with some locations experiencing moderate flood levels along the White River system.

According to the National Weather Service in Indianapolis, minor to moderate flooding is ongoing along the White River and the East Fork White River, as well as several smaller tributaries across the region.

Forecast river stage maps show the most significant flooding south of Bloomington through Jasper and toward Vincennes, with moderate flooding expected in areas downstream of Newberry and Seymour.

The flooding developed after repeated rainfall events increased water levels across river basins in southern Indiana. Officials say elevated river levels could persist through the first part of the upcoming week as water continues moving downstream.

Floodwaters may impact low-lying roads, agricultural land, and areas near riverbanks. Authorities warn that conditions can change quickly near flooded waterways.

The National Weather Service urges residents to stay away from flooded areas and never drive through water-covered roadways.

“Turn Around, Don’t Drown” remains a key safety message, as many flood-related fatalities occur when drivers attempt to cross flooded roads.

Residents in flood-prone areas are encouraged to continue monitoring river forecasts and local emergency updates as conditions evolve through the week.

Flooding may also affect rural travel routes and some commuter roads near river crossings in southern Indiana communities.
