Bloomington, Indiana — A Bloomington man was arrested after investigators linked him to a November crash causing serious injuries.
According to the Monroe County Sheriff’s Office, the county’s Major Crash Investigation (MCI) Team announced an arrest following a months-long investigation into a Nov. 9, 2025 collision in the 600 block of East Smithville Road.
Authorities said Aidan Johnson, 20, of Bloomington, allegedly crossed the centerline and struck another vehicle head-on during the crash. Six people were transported to a hospital following the collision, and three of them sustained serious injuries, investigators said.
Johnson has been charged with:
- Three counts of Operating a Vehicle While Intoxicated Causing Serious Bodily Injury
- Three counts of Operating a Vehicle With a Schedule I Controlled Substance in the Blood Causing Serious Bodily Injury
- Obstruction of Justice
- Possession of Marijuana
According to the sheriff’s office, investigators conducted a comprehensive crash reconstruction to determine how the collision occurred. Authorities said Johnson’s vehicle allegedly crossed into the opposing lane, where it struck a vehicle driven by an 81-year-old man, whose 78-year-old wife was a passenger.
As part of the investigation, detectives obtained a judicially authorized search warrant to collect a blood sample from Johnson after identifying potential signs of intoxication.
The sheriff’s office said toxicology results later confirmed the presence of Delta-9 tetrahydrocannabinol (THC) in Johnson’s blood.
Johnson surrendered himself at the Monroe County Sheriff’s Office on Wednesday, March 4, 2026, and was taken into custody without incident.
Authorities have not released additional details about the conditions of those injured in the crash.
The roadway is a common route for Bloomington residents, including students and commuters traveling between residential areas and the city.
