Bloomington, IN Crash Sends 19-Year-Old IU Student Cyclist to Hospital in Critical Condition

Bloomington, IN – A 19-year-old Indiana University student is in critical condition following a major crash Thursday afternoon in Monroe County. The incident occurred at approximately 3:47 p.m. near N. Bottom Road and W. Maple Grove Road, where a cyclist was struck by a vehicle, according to the Monroe County Sheriff’s Office.

According to deputies, a 20-year-old male driving a Honda Accord collided with the bicyclist. Emergency crews transported the student by ambulance to IU Health Bloomington Hospital, where he remains in critical condition.

Investigators with the Major Crash Investigation Team responded to the scene and are working to determine what led to the collision. The Sheriff’s Office says the driver stayed on-site after the crash and has been cooperating with authorities.

Deputies are asking anyone who witnessed the crash or has video footage—from dash cams, home cameras, or mobile devices—to contact the Monroe County Sheriff’s Office at (812) 349-2781. Officials say additional updates will be released as the investigation continues.
