Bloomington, IN – A serious traffic crash in Monroe County left a bicyclist critically injured Thursday afternoon, according to the Monroe County Sheriff’s Office.

Deputies responded around 3:47 p.m. on December 5 to a collision near N. Bottom Road and W. Maple Grove Road. Authorities said a 20-year-old man driving a Honda Accord struck a 19-year-old Indiana University student who was riding a bicycle.

According to officials, the cyclist was transported by ambulance to IU Health Bloomington Hospital and remains in critical condition. Investigators with the Major Crash Investigation Team were called to the scene and are actively reviewing evidence.

The driver of the vehicle remained at the scene and is cooperating with investigators, police said. Updates will be provided as the investigation develops.
