A 49-year-old Bloomington man died following a two-vehicle crash Saturday morning at the intersection of Wylie Drive and West Market Street.
According to the Bloomington Police Department, officers responded to the scene at approximately 8:02 a.m., along with the Bloomington Fire Department. Paramedics provided medical attention to one of the drivers, Scott W. Smith, before transporting him to Carle BroMenn Medical Center, where he was pronounced deceased at 8:46 a.m.
The McLean County Coroner’s Office stated that preliminary autopsy results indicate Smith died from multiple blunt force injuries sustained in the crash. Toxicology testing is pending.
The driver of the second vehicle sustained non-life-threatening injuries and was also transported to a hospital.
Bloomington Police Chief Jamal Simington emphasized the preventability of motor vehicle crashes and reaffirmed the department’s commitment to enhanced traffic enforcement and driver education efforts.
The McLean County Accident Reconstruction Team and McLean County Coroner’s Office are continuing to investigate. Anyone with information is asked to contact Bloomington Police at 309-820-8888.
