Minneapolis, MN – A powerful winter storm is set to impact parts of Minnesota and western Wisconsin from Tuesday evening through Wednesday afternoon, bringing blizzard-like conditions, heavy snow, and strong winds that could disrupt travel and cause power outages.
According to the National Weather Service, areas in southern and southeastern Minnesota, including Dakota, Blue Earth, and Goodhue counties, could see between 3 and 6 inches of snow. Wind gusts may reach up to 55 mph, creating whiteout conditions with visibility dropping below 1/4 mile. Residents in cities such as Mankato, Red Wing, and Hastings should prepare for difficult travel and potential road closures.
In western Wisconsin, including Eau Claire, St. Croix, and Chippewa counties, snowfall totals of 2 to 5 inches are expected, accompanied by gusts up to 45 mph. The strong winds may bring down tree limbs, leading to sporadic power outages. Roads, especially bridges and overpasses, are expected to become slick and hazardous, particularly for the Wednesday morning commute.
Authorities urge residents to monitor forecasts, delay travel if possible, and take precautions to stay safe. Those who must travel should allow extra time, drive cautiously, and prepare for rapidly changing conditions. Emergency preparedness, including having an emergency kit in vehicles, is strongly advised.
