Marquette, MI – A Blizzard Warning is in effect for Keweenaw, Ontonagon, Houghton, and Baraga counties from Thursday midday through early Friday morning, bringing whiteout conditions and hazardous travel to Michigan’s Upper Peninsula.
According to the National Weather Service (NWS) in Marquette, snow accumulations of up to 6 inches are expected, with wind gusts reaching 55 mph. Dangerous travel conditions, including significant drifting snow on north-south roads, could make travel life-threatening. The Thursday evening commute is expected to be heavily impacted.
Residents are advised to avoid travel unless necessary and carry a winter survival kit if they must be on the roads. Power outages and tree damage are possible due to strong winds. The storm is expected to ease by early Friday morning.
