Glasgow, MT – A blizzard warning has been issued for parts of eastern Montana, with hazardous conditions expected to begin this evening. Areas affected include Dawson, McCone, Prairie, Richland, and Wibaux counties.
According to the National Weather Service in Glasgow, the warning will be in effect from 6 p.m. Sunday to 4 a.m. Monday. Snow accumulations of up to 3 inches, combined with wind gusts as high as 50 mph, will create whiteout conditions and reduced visibility. A Winter Weather Advisory will follow from 4 a.m. to 5 p.m. Monday, with additional snowfall expected to impact roadways.
Officials warn that visibility may drop below 1/4 mile, making travel dangerous. The high winds could also bring down tree branches. The heaviest snowfall and strongest winds are expected in higher elevations, including the Big Sheeps area and parts of Wibaux County.
Residents are advised to avoid travel unless absolutely necessary. Those who must travel are encouraged to carry a winter survival kit, including water, blankets, and a flashlight. Road conditions can be monitored by calling 511.
Travelers should drive with caution and prepare for icy and slippery conditions throughout the region.
