Denver, CO – A powerful winter storm is set to bring blizzard conditions to eastern Colorado starting late Monday night, with strong winds and heavy snowfall expected to create hazardous travel conditions through Tuesday.
According to the National Weather Service in Denver, a Blizzard Warning has been issued from 11 p.m. Monday until 5 p.m. Tuesday for Limon and Akron, with expected snowfall between 2 and 8 inches and wind gusts reaching up to 65 mph. In Sedgwick and Phillips counties, including Julesburg and Holyoke, the warning will take effect at 2 a.m. Tuesday, bringing up to 6 inches of snow and wind gusts of 60 mph.
The combination of heavy snowfall and high winds is expected to cause whiteout conditions, making travel extremely dangerous. The Colorado Department of Transportation warns of possible road closures and advises motorists to alter travel plans. If travel is unavoidable, officials recommend carrying an emergency winter kit with essentials such as blankets, food, water, and a flashlight.
Residents should prepare for potential power outages due to strong winds and blowing snow. Authorities urge people to stay indoors and monitor updates from local officials and emergency services.
