Grand Forks, ND – A powerful blizzard is sweeping across northern North Dakota, creating treacherous travel conditions. The National Weather Service has issued a blizzard warning until 6 p.m. for Benson, Cavalier, Ramsey, and Towner counties.
According to the National Weather Service, wind gusts could reach 50 mph, significantly reducing visibility. Snow accumulation will be minimal, but blowing snow will cause whiteout conditions, especially in open areas.
Officials warn that road conditions are extremely dangerous, and travel should be restricted to emergencies only. The storm could bring down tree branches and create slippery roads, impacting the evening commute.
Authorities recommend carrying a winter survival kit if travel is unavoidable. Those stranded should remain in their vehicles for safety.
Blizzard conditions are also affecting Bottineau, Pierce, and Rolette counties, with similar dangerous winds and whiteout conditions.
For updated road conditions, dial 511 or visit local transportation websites. The storm is expected to ease after 6 p.m. as winds diminish.
