Grand Forks, ND – A winter storm will sweep through North Dakota on Tuesday night, bringing heavy snow, strong winds, and hazardous travel conditions to the Devils Lake Basin and surrounding areas. Snow accumulations of up to six inches are expected, with gusts over 30 mph creating near-blizzard conditions in open regions.
According to the National Weather Service, the heaviest snowfall will impact areas west of Grand Forks, including the Devils Lake Basin, where visibility is likely to drop to near zero in some spots. Commuters traveling Tuesday evening or Wednesday morning are urged to exercise caution or delay trips, as roadways could become treacherous.
The snow is expected to begin late Tuesday and continue into early Wednesday. Winds will cause significant blowing and drifting, making travel on major routes, including I-29, particularly dangerous.
Temperatures will drop rapidly overnight, with highs on Wednesday struggling to reach 25°F. The storm will be followed by colder, windy conditions lasting through midweek.
Residents should prepare for delays, ensure emergency kits are in vehicles, and stay updated on weather alerts. Snow removal services may also face delays due to drifting snow and reduced visibility.
