Minneapolis, MN – A powerful winter storm is bringing heavy snowfall and strong winds to southern Minnesota and western Wisconsin, prompting winter weather alerts across the region.

According to the National Weather Service, the heaviest snow has shifted south, leading to a Blizzard Warning remaining in effect for areas east and south of Le Sueur, Nicollet, Brown, Watonwan, Rice, and Goodhue counties. Meanwhile, a Winter Weather Advisory is now in place for Dakota, Scott, Rusk, Chippewa, Dunn, and Pierce counties from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m. Wednesday.

Snowfall rates of 1 to 2 inches per hour are expected Wednesday morning into early afternoon, with total accumulations between 1 and 5 inches. Northwest winds of 30 to 40 mph, with gusts up to 45 mph along I-90, will create hazardous travel conditions, especially in open areas where blowing snow may cause whiteout conditions.

Drivers are urged to use caution and check local road conditions before traveling. In Minnesota, updates can be found at 511mn.org, while Wisconsin travelers can visit 511wi.gov for the latest reports.
