Blairstown, Missouri – Water is already covering key rural roadways this morning as Big Creek surged past 23 feet, pushing floodwaters over low crossings west of Blairstown and cutting off access near N Highway.

According to the National Weather Service in Kansas City, Big Creek reached 23.7 feet at 8 a.m. Friday, well above the 20-foot flood stage. Moderate flooding is ongoing and will continue until late Sunday morning, with water covering the west approach to the N Highway bridge and sections of B Highway northwest of town.

Across western Missouri, multiple rivers remain elevated. The Blackwater River near Blue Lick and Valley City, the Lamine River near Otterville, and the South Grand River at Urich are all under extended flood warnings. In Carroll County, Wakenda Creek is also out of its banks, affecting low-lying roads and farmland.

Drivers face the highest risk. Even shallow water can stall vehicles or sweep them away. Emergency managers urge residents to avoid flooded roads, especially overnight when visibility drops.

Water levels should fall below flood stage by late Saturday morning in Blairstown, but some roads may stay closed into Sunday. Additional advisories could be issued if runoff slows or new rainfall develops.
