Blacksburg, VA – Residents across southwest Virginia and southeastern West Virginia should prepare for two rounds of wet, unsettled weather this weekend, according to the U.S. National Weather Service in Blacksburg.

The first system will bring light to moderate rain beginning Friday evening and continuing into Saturday morning. Forecasters say most areas can expect up to a half-inch of rainfall, with the heaviest totals likely near the Virginia–West Virginia state line. “Modest beneficial rainfall is expected for most of the area,” meteorologists reported early Thursday.

After a brief break in the rain on Saturday afternoon, a second, stronger cold front is forecast to move through late Sunday, bringing additional rainfall and gusty winds. This front is also expected to usher in a significant drop in temperatures by early next week.

Travelers and outdoor event planners should monitor updates through the weekend, as conditions could become breezy and wet late Sunday night into Monday morning.
