Blacksburg, Virginia – A storm system moving through the region will bring widespread rainfall to Blacksburg from Friday into Saturday night, with totals around one inch expected.
According to the National Weather Service in Blacksburg, most of the rain will fall from Friday afternoon through Saturday. Forecast rainfall amounts across the Blacksburg area are generally near 1 inch, with locally higher totals possible to the south and along the Blue Ridge.
In parts of the North Carolina mountains, rainfall amounts could reach up to 2 inches. While this rain is expected to be beneficial, forecasters say isolated flooding issues cannot be ruled out, especially in areas that receive heavier downpours.
The heaviest rainfall is expected to remain south of Blacksburg, extending into portions of North Carolina and southwest into Tennessee. However, periods of steady rain may still impact travel and outdoor plans locally through Saturday night.
No severe weather is currently expected, but residents are encouraged to monitor conditions, especially in flood-prone or low-lying areas.
Rain tapers off late Saturday night as the system moves east, with improved conditions expected heading into Sunday.
