Blacksburg, Va. – Residents across southwest Virginia can expect a comfortable weekend as temperatures dip just below seasonal averages, offering cooler nights and mild afternoons. Highs Saturday reached the upper 70s to near 80, while overnight lows are expected to fall into the low to mid-50s, giving the region a noticeable taste of early fall.

According to the National Weather Service in Blacksburg, much of the area—including Roanoke, Lynchburg, and the New River Valley—will see highs in the 77-80 degree range, with cooler spots like Bluefield and Lewisburg settling closer to the mid-70s. Tonight, temperatures will bottom out near 51 in Lewisburg, 55 in Bluefield, and around 58 in Roanoke and Blacksburg.

Drivers in mountain valleys should be mindful of patchy fog forming overnight into early Sunday morning, particularly along I-81 and U.S. 460. The cool, damp air could limit visibility before sunrise. Residents are encouraged to keep windows cracked at night or plan for an extra layer in the morning hours.

Forecasters say the cooling trend will continue into early next week, with daytime highs slipping slightly further below normal by Monday and Tuesday.
