Blacksburg, Va. – Showers and thunderstorms will push through Virginia tonight as a cold front sweeps across the region, followed by a sharp drop in temperatures. Roads could be slick through late evening as scattered downpours continue before clearing skies move in overnight.

According to the National Weather Service in Blacksburg, cooler and drier air will settle into the state from Monday through at least Thursday, with high pressure building overhead. Mountain communities will wake up to lows in the 50s tonight, while the Piedmont dips into the lower 60s.

By Monday, sunshine takes over with afternoon highs holding in the 60s and 70s across the Blue Ridge and low 80s in the Piedmont. The cooler stretch is expected to persist much of the workweek, offering a break from summer humidity. Drivers should allow extra time tonight as storms pass, but conditions will steadily improve heading into Monday morning.

Forecasters note that isolated showers may return to the North Carolina mountains by Friday and Saturday as the high-pressure system shifts east.
