Blacksburg, Va. – Rain is back in the forecast today for much of Virginia as humidity builds, bringing scattered afternoon storms that could drench parts of the state. The National Weather Service says the heaviest rainfall is expected south of US-460, with isolated storms possible throughout the day and a higher concentration in the afternoon hours.
According to the NWS Blacksburg office, a summertime weather pattern will persist through the week, with daily afternoon showers and thunderstorms developing across the region. Rain chances remain highest for southern Virginia and along the Virginia–North Carolina border, where moisture levels will be greatest.
By mid to late week, the risk of flash flooding is expected to increase as storms become more frequent and produce heavier rainfall. Low-lying areas and locations with poor drainage will be most vulnerable. Drivers should avoid flooded roads, and residents are encouraged to secure outdoor items and monitor local alerts.
Rain chances will stay in place into the weekend, and additional flood advisories may be issued if the pattern holds.
