Blacksburg, VA – The first frost of the season is expected tonight across portions of western Virginia and southeastern West Virginia, as clear skies and light winds allow temperatures to dip into the 30s.
According to the US National Weather Service in Blacksburg, a Frost Advisory is in effect from 2 a.m. to 9 a.m. Friday for Bath, Rockbridge, and Greenbrier counties, where widespread frost is likely. Elsewhere west of the Blue Ridge, patchy frost could form in colder valleys.
Temperatures are forecast to fall into the low to mid-30s overnight, which could damage sensitive vegetation if left uncovered. The Weather Service recommends covering plants with light blankets or moving them indoors if possible.
Daytime highs Thursday will reach the 60s to near 70, with sunny skies continuing into the weekend. A brief warm-up is expected Saturday before the next cold front and rain chance arrives Sunday afternoon.
